I haven't been posting for a while since Papa Obscure died. He didn't know about this site, my alter ego. He didn't know about the book I've written (whether or not it's any good). What he did know was how much he meant to me. He knew that I'm doing just fine and I hope he knew that he (and Mama Obscure) was the reason why.MORE.

This isn't what I intended on writing today but I couldn't help myself. After reading over 1,000 words written by Robert Kiyosaki I was left feeling completely empty. There was nothing there. They might as well have been 1,000 random words. MORE.

We're all afraid of something and overcoming that fear is what makes us stronger. Don't let your fear of words or difficult methods keep you from getting control of your finances.MORE.

As an investor you can either take an active approach or a passive one. Not having enough success as an active investor I switched to passive investing and have done much better. Part of my frustration was that I felt damned if I bought and damned if I sold. MORE.

I've often driven in tony neighborhoods and wondered two things: 1. what do these people do for a living and 2. can I apply? Well, Ryan D'Agostino in Money Magazine, did just that stopping in some very wealthy neighborhoods and knocking on people's doors to find out how the heck they got where they are. MORE.

The Festival of Frugality is being hosted this week by Get Rich Slowly and I am one of many contributors. Definately worth checking out.
I also have a post at the ever popular Carnival of Personal Finance being hosted this week by No Credit Needed. As always a great source of useful information.

When spending money remind yourself that deserve has nothing to do with it. I might deserve a Bentley Continental GT but at over $300,000 I can't afford it. MORE.

One of my main reasons for first visiting a financial advisor was to simplify my finances. As usual for someone of my generation, I had worked several jobs and each one offered retirement savings plans, in my case 401(k)s. In addition to that I had several bank accounts and brokerage accounts that I wanted to consolidate. In short I was starting to get confused.MORE.

I feel good today because none other than the NYSE agrees with me. Today the NYSE is issuing a publication spelling out risks associated with investing in ETFs. To see what risks they're talking about continue here.

As I begin to write this I realize how broad the subject of taking chances really is. What do I want this article to be about? Am I talking about taking the chance in regards to buying stocks, asking someone out on a date (a bad idea since I'm married), starting a business, going back to school, or maybe all of those? MORE.

I'm a big fan of numbers, don't get me wrong but I think that sometimes there can be too much emphasis on numbers and not enough on life. You aren't doing youself any favors by tracking the amount of debt on your credit cards if you continue spending money like you have it. MORE
