See our advertising policy. Rich E. Obscure's contribution to personal finance books is now available! November 27, 2006 Jim at Blueprint for Financial Prosperity has done a great post that shows the true cost of federal taxes on your income. It got me thinking. You see, it's not as easy as saying since I make X amount of money, I'm in the Y tax bracket. This is because the tax bracket only includes federal income tax not Social Security tax and Medicare tax. Add those in and your tax bill is higher. MORE.
November 13, 2006 I'm making another appearance in the latest Carnival of Personal Finance Hosted by F.D. at A Geek's World. I'm pretty inconsistent with my participation but hopefully you'll find my contribution useful. If not there are many other posts that are worth taking a look at. Enjoy.
November 9, 2006 Tuesday night on PBS, Frontline did a spectacular report on the preparedness of retirees and the shift from traditional pensions to 401(k)s. I'm a big believer in personal responsibility but this report did a lot to convince me of flaws in the 401(k) system. I highly recommend that you watch the report online and check out the other supporting material (that includes this article on mistakes Gen Y are making in their 401(k) accounts) on the Frontline website. November 2, 2006 I'm sure there are a lot of people who are excited and happy that the stock market has been doing well recently and part of me is happy too. The other part however isn't. The part of me that wants instant gratification, that wants to feel rich is happy. The part that actually wants to be rich, that wants to retire early isn't so happy. Let me explain.MORE.
November 1, 2006 OK this is the type of story I've been waiting for. I've had a request for anyone who has gotten in trouble with any seminar or get rich course out there since I started this website but haven't heard from anyone. I hope that means there aren't as many people taken in by the late night infomercials as I think there are. MORE.
November 1, 2006 I've missed a week and a half of posting but that's OK since my philosophy is quality not quantity. My trip to California (my favorite state in the union) was wonderful and has inspired me to begin working on new postings. Whether I'll have time to actually write them I don't know but I'll try. April 13, 2006: Inflation is running rampant but I'm not talking about money. I'm not talking about price inflation. I'm talking about an expectation inflation. What's that? I'll explain. MORE. April 6, 2006: Do catch phrases work for you? Check out my feelings about Jim Cramer and his Boo-Yah catch phrase. March 24, 2006: I’ve heard it said that if you quote Shakespear people will think you’re smart. Well these days it seems that all you have to do is mention Warren Buffet and people will think you are some kind of an financial expert. November 15, 2005: A recent NY Times article captures my sentiments about personal finance books October 26, 2005: After a vacation and brief illness (so early in the season) I'm back. And inspired by my vacation is this post on The Good Life. October 26, 2005: Appearances can be deceiving. I learned this while shopping on Rodeo Drive.
